Adventures by Disney is the most underexplained and least understood offering in the entire Disney portfolio. When I mention it to families planning a Disney vacation, I often get a blank look. "I didn't know Disney did that." They do, and they do it exceptionally well. Here's the complete guide.
What Is Adventures by Disney?
Adventures by Disney is Disney's guided group travel program. Rather than theme parks or resorts, Adventures by Disney operates escorted tours to destinations around the world, Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, Australia, and the American West. Groups are small (typically 40 families maximum), escorted by two specially trained "Adventure Guides," and given access to experiences that independent travelers can't easily arrange: private after-hours museum access, cooking classes with local chefs, cultural immersion experiences, and activities specifically designed for families with children.
Think of it as Disney applying its expertise in storytelling, service, and curated experiences to international travel.
Sample Destinations and Itineraries
Adventures by Disney offers dozens of itineraries. Some of the most popular:
- Italy: Rome, Florence, Venice, and the Amalfi Coast. Private access to the Vatican Museums, gondola rides on private canals in Venice, cooking classes in Tuscany.
- France and Barcelona: Paris, Mont Saint-Michel, and Barcelona. Private morning access to the Louvre, Impressionism art experiences, Spanish cooking classes.
- Japan: Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Nara. Private bullet train experiences, tea ceremony, sumo stable visit, and Disney Parks access included (Tokyo Disneyland).
- Costa Rica: Rainforest, volcanoes, zip lines, and wildlife. A nature-focused adventure trip for active families.
- National Parks: American Southwest (Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon) and other domestic destinations.
- Peru: Machu Picchu, Amazon Basin, and Cusco. For adventurous families ready for something truly extraordinary.
What's Included
Adventures by Disney trips are complete, nearly everything is included in the price:
- All hotel accommodations (typically 4–5 star properties)
- Most meals (breakfast daily, many lunches and dinners)
- All activities, entrance fees, and experiences in the itinerary
- Private transportation throughout
- Two Adventure Guides per group for the entire trip
- Disney-exclusive experiences not available to independent travelers
- Dedicated Disney onsite support
International airfare is typically not included but can be booked through Disney at an additional cost.
The Cost
Adventures by Disney is the premium tier of Disney travel experiences, and the pricing reflects that. Per-person adult pricing on international trips typically runs $4,000–$8,000 per person for a 7–10 day trip. For a family of 4 on a European itinerary, expect $16,000–$30,000+ total, all-in (excluding airfare). Domestic National Parks trips are less expensive, $2,000–$4,000/person.
That sounds like an extraordinary amount. Here's the context: these trips are priced similarly to other premium escorted tours (Tauck Family, Abercrombie & Kent), and when you break down the cost, 5-star hotels, all meals, private transportation, specialized guides, Disney-exclusive experiences, and the peace of mind of a fully planned international family vacation, the math becomes more reasonable for families in the right budget range.
Who Adventures by Disney Is Right For
Not every family. Here's my honest assessment of who gets the most value:
- Families who want international travel but don't want to plan it themselves. Adventures by Disney removes every logistical burden of international travel. You arrive at the airport and Disney handles everything until you return home.
- Families with kids who might otherwise resist "educational" travel. The Adventure Guides are extraordinarily skilled at making history, culture, and art engaging for children. Many families report that their kids came home genuinely passionate about the countries they visited.
- Families celebrating a milestone. A 10th anniversary trip to Italy, a high school graduation trip to Japan, a bucket-list family adventure to Peru. These are the kinds of trips Adventures by Disney is built for.
- Families where the parents don't speak the local language and want support. Adventures by Disney operates entirely in English with bilingual guides and staff.
