Disney World snacks are an event. Some are absolutely worth the cost. Some are overhyped tourist traps. Here are the snacks I actually tell clients to seek out, all under $10 each, ranked by which ones are absolutely worth your time and money.
The Iconic Must-Try Snacks
Dole Whip (Magic Kingdom, Polynesian)
The most famous Disney snack in the world. A frozen pineapple soft-serve sold at Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom's Adventureland and at the Polynesian's Pineapple Lanai. Get it as a float (Dole Whip in pineapple juice) for the full experience. Around $6.
Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar
The classic. Sold throughout the parks at ice cream carts and stands. Vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate, shaped like Mickey's head. Around $6.50.
Mickey-Shaped Rice Krispie Treat
Sold at most quick-service spots and bakeries. Some are dipped in white chocolate or decorated. The plain ones are around $5.
Funnel Cake (Magic Kingdom's Sleepy Hollow)
The Sleepy Hollow funnel cake in Liberty Square is the perfect midday Magic Kingdom snack. Topped with powdered sugar or fruit. Around $7.
The Hidden Gems Most Families Miss
School Bread (EPCOT Norway Pavilion)
A cardamom-spiced pastry filled with vanilla cream, topped with toasted coconut. From the Kringla Bakeri in Norway. Around $5. Sweet, unique, genuinely memorable.
Ronto Wrap (Hollywood Studios Galaxy's Edge)
Pita stuffed with grilled sausage, roasted pork, peppercorn sauce, and tangy slaw. From Ronto Roasters. Around $14, slightly over the under-$10 limit but worth flagging because it's the best food in Galaxy's Edge.
Beignets (Magic Kingdom's Sleepy Hollow Inn)
Mickey-shaped New Orleans-style beignets, freshly fried, dusted in powdered sugar. Around $6. Light, fluffy, addictive.
The Cheeseburger Spring Rolls (Magic Kingdom's Westward Ho)
Cheeseburger filling rolled inside spring roll wrappers. Sounds weird, tastes incredible. Around $6.
Pizza Pretzel (Animal Kingdom's Trilo-Bites)
A pretzel filled with pepperoni and cheese. Around $7. A staple for families with kids at Animal Kingdom.
Pineapple Float (Polynesian Resort)
If the Dole Whip is the famous one, the Pineapple Lanai at the Polynesian also serves it in a hollowed-out pineapple. Around $9. Beautiful Instagram moment and great taste.
Drinks Under $10 Worth Trying
Hot Chocolate (Magic Kingdom Holiday)
During the holiday season, several locations serve specialty hot chocolates. Look for "Peppermint Bark Hot Chocolate" or seasonal variations.
Frozen Carbonated Beverages (Tomorrowland)
The Lunching Pad in Tomorrowland serves frozen Coke or Sprite. The frozen Coke is particularly excellent on hot days. Around $5.
Wine Around the World (EPCOT)
While not under $10 for tastings ($8 to $12 per pour), a glass of wine at any World Showcase pavilion is the elegant adult snack experience.
The Snacks I Tell Clients to Skip
Mickey Pretzels
They're fine. They're shaped like Mickey. But they're a regular soft pretzel sold for $7. Save your snack budget for items that justify the cost.
Park-Branded Drinks
The water bottles, regular sodas, and basic beverages cost 2 to 3 times what they would outside the park. Stick with the included free water from quick-service counters and save snack money for actual treats.
Popcorn (Unless From the Popcorn Bucket)
Plain popcorn is fine but feels overpriced. If you're getting popcorn anyway, buy a souvenir popcorn bucket with free refills. The math works.
Where to Get the Most Variety
EPCOT's World Showcase has the most diverse snack options at Disney World. Walking from country to country with a snack from each is one of the best Disney experiences available. France's bakery has crepes and macarons. Norway has the school bread. Mexico has churros and the famous tequila options. Japan has melon bread and mochi.
How to Budget Snacks for a Family of 4
A reasonable snack budget for a family of 4 at Disney World: $40 to $60 per day. That's 4 to 6 snacks per day shared across the family, allowing for variety without breaking the budget. The families who go overboard ($150+ per day in snacks) usually don't enjoy them as much as families who pace themselves.
